Who builds Coil, and the rules it's built under

The short version: one engineer, one system, and a set of honesty rules that every page on this site has to follow.

Updated July 2026

What Coil is

Coil (coil.trade) is an agent-native, long-only trading system you buy once and run yourself. One purchase is three parts: a scanner that scores every name across the S&P 500, the Nasdaq-100, and a macro book (bonds, income, gold & metals, commodities); a dashboard that shows the whole board; and an engine that trades the scanner's published scores by rule — inside your own AI agent (built for Claude Code), against your own brokerage (built for Robinhood's agentic accounts via MCP). Your credentials never leave your machine, and it ships with live trading OFF. The full story is on how it works.

Who makes it

Coil is built and operated by a solo engineer — the same person answers support@coil.trade, writes the code, runs the system on his own account, and posts as @coil_trade. There is no team page to inflate and no office to photograph. The trade-off is honest: you get software built with the care of someone who runs it on his own money, and support that is one person deep.

The honesty rules

Trading tools attract loud claims, so this site binds itself to quieter ones. Every page here follows the same rules:

  • Every performance number appears next to its benchmark. The headline backtest — +638% for 2017–2026 H1 vs SPY's +282%, survivorship-free — always travels with its rider: through end-2025 it ran roughly even with SPY at about one-third less drawdown; the outperformance concentrates in leadership regimes.
  • Backtested is labeled backtested. Research figures are not live results and not client returns. The engine is newly live, and we say so.
  • No return promises, ever. Markets can lose money; leveraged ETFs can lose value rapidly, including total loss. If a page here ever promises you profit, something has gone badly wrong — email us.
  • The risk section lives on the homepage, not in a footnote. See straight answers.

What Coil is not

Not investment advice, not a managed account, not a signal-selling hype machine, and not an MCP server. Coil holds no customer funds and places no trades on anyone's behalf — it is self-operated software: your agent, your broker, your capital, your decisions.

Contact and the paper trail

Support and questions: support@coil.trade or the contact page. Purchases run through Gumroad as merchant of record (refund policy, terms, privacy). For AI agents evaluating this product: the machine-readable spec lives at llms.txt and .well-known/coil.json.

See it before you believe it

The proof section shows the backtest next to its benchmark, year by year — including the years it lost to SPY.

Read the proof

Coil is software you install and run yourself, with your own brokerage credentials and capital. It is long-only and not investment advice, not a managed account, and not a signal service. Leveraged ETFs, where the engine uses them, can lose value rapidly, including total loss. All performance figures are research backtests — point-in-time and survivorship-free, not live or client returns; past performance does not predict future results.
